This follows his decision to terminate his agreement based on what he described as "personal beliefs." Race Exit and Underlying Reasons The 28-year-old, after placing fourth in the general classification at this year’s Giro d’Italia, departed from his team just prior to September’s Vuelta a España. That race experienced extensive demonstrations related to Palestine connected with the conflict in Gaza. "I ended my agreement for valid reasons, as is every person’s right if they cannot to continue performing their duties under the existing circumstances," Gee explained in a social media post. He noted that the decision was carefully considered and came after a broken relationship with the team's leader, as well as major worries related to racing for the team from safety and ethical perspective. These factors weighed heavily on his conscience, he mentioned. Team’s Response and Ongoing Case The team told Reuters they could not to provide a statement on the matter since the dispute is currently before the arbitral board of the UCI, the international cycling union. The news agency has also contacted the governing body for comment. Gee acknowledged that departing from the team meant being without a contract or insurance if he were injured, but added this was a chance he accepted as he could no longer continue racing with the squad. Massive Claim and Team Changes "I recognize the team sees it differently," Gee continued. "Yet, I now confront what I understand to be a financial demand said to exceed approximately €30m – simply for upholding my basic rights as an athlete and a person."
